Death

All religions encourage ceremonial rituals surrounding death. Those rituals help perpetuate the myth that death is more like a graduation ceremony than a final end of existence. Unfortunately the secular death industry is more than happy to participate in this fantasy. This industry rides on the back of religious superstition… all the way to the bank!

In a world inhabited by only SMART people, of course there would be no religion, and the death industry would be a fraction of its current size. SMART people understand that from the instant of death, that person does not exist. The body that he or she used to live in very soon becomes a rotting corpse that needs to be buried or burnt as quickly as possible. Contrary to the sales pitch from the death industry, the corpse or cremated remains do not need a fancy casket or expensive urn. And their final resting place does not need to be in a cemetery marked by a memorial costing thousands of dollars.

Perhaps in death this guy was trying to compensate for something lacking in his life!

A deceased SMART person is much more likely to be memorialised on a wall plaque in a hospital, or other worthy cause, acknowledging a bequest from a will. Compare the worthiness of that kind of memorial to an engraved chunk of granite in a cemetery!

When a SMART person dies his SMART friends and relatives will grieve just like everyone else. They may even want to gather at a funeral to comfort each other and share memories of the deceased. But SMART people will not allow their grief to legitimise religious superstition, or to finance the luxurious lifestyle enjoyed by some people in the death industry.
